Have you ever spent time working on a jigsaw puzzle, only to discover at the end that you are missing one piece? Rachel and I were once doing a 1000-piece “Map of the World” puzzle, and we’d put everything in place except for one piece, right in the middle of the map! Talk about frustrating! We thought about making a replacement out of cardboard, but it probably never would have looked quite right.
Author Joe Stowell says that life is a bit like a puzzle. We spend our days trying to put it all together, to complete the picture. Yet many people are still missing a piece. They try and put something else in that place: money, relationships & family, careers, community service, approval from others. But still there is something missing. People are restless, lacking true satisfaction. In fact, some will live their entire lives without quite finishing the puzzle. They may act as though they are content, but really they have settled for an incomplete picture.
There is one puzzle piece that every person needs; in fact, without this piece, no life is complete. That piece is God our Creator Himself. The One who has made us in His image, and has set eternity in our hearts. He is what many people are missing, and they don’t even realise it.
God’s Word reminds us that He is the One who truly satisfies. Isaiah 55:1-3 contains an invitation to those who are spiritually hungry and thirsty to delight themselves in God and His promises. Christ is the One who ultimately fulfils that. In John 4:14, Jesus said, “Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst…[it] will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” And in John 6:35m, He declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
The Lord Jesus Christ completes the picture, the puzzle of our lives. He gives true joy and peace, now and into eternity. May those blessings be yours, through faith in Him.
